It appears now that depression is an important risk factor for heart disease along with high blood cholesterol and high blood pressure
Research by Kamel reported that among 19,000 farmers studied, exposure to pesticides increases the risk of been diagnosed with depression.
In a French study farmers who used herbicides were nearly twice as likely to have been treated for depression than those who didn’t use herbicides
Smokers are more likely to suffer from anxiety and depression overall than non-smokers according to a British study.
The study found that smoking may be a source of anxiety because of the feelings of withdrawal smokers experience after not having a cigarette

A study published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry found that brain inflammation was 30 percent higher in depressed patients.

Survivors of suicide loss are at higher risk of developing major depression
Low levels of vitamin D is associated with depression.
Men with high sugar intakes have an increased likelihood of developing depression.
People experiencing low mood may eat sugary foods in the hope of alleviating negative feelings.
